Low-level disturbance near Sri Lanka likely to become low-pressure area
A low level atmospheric disturbance near Sri Lanka is likely to develop into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours. The system is expected to bring an increase in rainfall over the island and the deep and shallow sea areas around the island during the next few days from today (21).
The general public, as well as the naval and fishing communities, are requested to be attentive to future forecasts and bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times over most parts of the island. Cloudy skies can be expected over most parts of the island. Heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, Northern and Southern provinces and in Anuradhapura district.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central and Uva provinces during the early hours of the morning.
