First phase of Mahiyanganaya Ditwa disaster housing project nears completion

The first phase of the Mahiyanganaya "Ditwa" Disaster Housing Project is nearing completion. The project was launched to provide permanent homes for families affected by the Ditwa disaster in the Mahiyanganaya Divisional Secretariat Division of the Badulla District.

The project was inaugurated on April 30 under the patronage of Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Samantha Vidyarathna.

The Government allocated Rs. 50 million under the first phase to construct 11 houses for families whose homes were completely destroyed by the disaster. All 11 houses have reached the roofing stage within less than three months of the project's launch.

Construction of an additional five houses has also commenced at the same site, bringing the total number of houses under construction to 16.

Preparations have been completed to begin the second phase of the project as soon as the next allocation of funds is received. The project aims to provide safe and permanent housing for families who lost their homes due to the disaster.
