Edelweiss Air commences direct Zurich-Colombo flights
The Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation announced yesterday (27) that Swiss airline Edelweiss Air has commenced direct flights between Zurich and Colombo with the start of the 2026/2027 tourist season.
The airline’s aircraft arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport this morning and was warmly welcomed along with its passengers and crew, accompanied by a traditional Kandyan dance performance.
Edelweiss Air is scheduled to operate three flights per week between Zurich and Colombo from today until May 2027.
The launch of these direct flights is expected to further strengthen Sri Lanka’s international air connectivity and create new opportunities to attract more international tourists to the country. The new service is also expected to contribute to increasing tourism revenue, expanding direct and indirect employment opportunities linked to the tourism industry, and boosting foreign exchange earnings. Expanding international air connectivity and further promoting the tourism sector through services such as these are expected to support the country’s economic growth and strengthen Sri Lanka’s position as a tourist destination.
